Future Food Systems
Generating knowledge to create safe, sustainable, and new foods chains that deliver healthy diets and support economic growth.

Our priorities
One of the strengths of the research undertaken in SRUC is the ability to work and integrate multidisciplinary programmes of work. We need big and sometimes disruptive solutions to answer key local and global challenges, such as those set out in the sustainable development goals for our food systems.
Our thematic priorities focus on addressing the sustainable development goals and the required transitions to get there, by demonstrating to the public and policy makers how technology can make agriculture more sustainable and productive.

Our research process
Our land-based industries not only produce food (and by-products) but are part of an integrated land use strategy delivering natural capital.
We take a systems approach that can effectively address multiple challenges, for example economic, environmental and animal welfare. In partnership with industry we generate knowledge to create safe, sustainable, and new foods chains that deliver healthy diets and support economic growth.
