RJ McLeod are looking for an Assistant Ecological Clerk of Works to join them on a fixed term contract this summer. The role will be based on their windfarm site near Dalmellington, South Ayrshire.

The role is an ideal position for someone who is interested in an environmental career and keen to learn. The role will involve but is not limited to:

  • Water monitoring
  • Ecological surveying
  • Works Checks/site inspection
  • Report writing

What you will need to succeed:

  • possess, or be working towards, a qualification in an environmental related discipline, preferably with some conservation element but this is not essential

Farm Vet Champions Project Manager, RCVS Knowledge – flexible location, with some travel to London                                   

Just entering its second phase, the Farm Vet Champions project is uniting and empowering UK farm animal veterinary professionals to establish good antimicrobial stewardship in practices and on farms, so that the agricultural veterinary professions continue to improve animal health and welfare standards and provide positive inspiration and leadership towards One Health efforts.

Crop Surveyors, Environment Systems – UK locations

Environment Systems are looking for crop surveyors to support satellite mapping of common arable crops that we think is perfect for an agriculture student with crop knowledge. The crop surveyors will be based in Scotland, and North East and Southern England and will validate satellite derived crop maps.

These are short term summer jobs, starting immediately to cover this growing season - so June, July, August. The gross salary is ~£15,000 - 19,000 pro rata with travel and accommodation expenses on top.

The role involves travelling around arable regions and identifying and geo-tagging crop types into a mobile survey app.

We are long established Christmas tree farmers and my family has been in Angus farming trees since the late 70’s. We have way over 1 million trees in the grounds and up to approx 75-100k are harvested per year.

Seasonal work, Summer 2021 – Fearn Farm, Ross-shire

Fearn Farm are looking someone to join their existing team of 5 full time employees to aid them through the summer months and cover holidays.

Working on a mixed livestock and arable business there are lots of routine animal health and general farm maintenance jobs. The role will be very mixed and depending on experience may involve routine animal health treatments and procedures (drenching lambs/shearing/cattle handling) and general farm maintenance and repairs.

Essential characteristics for the role include: driving licence; willingness to work and learn; ability to work as part of a team and individually; enthusiasm and banter!

Desirable but not essential characteristics: general mixed farming knowledge/experience; knowledge/ experience of beef cattle and sheep; knowledge/experience of grassland/rotational grazing practices including fencing; basic machine operating skills; working dogs (kennels available if required).

Grain Store Harvest Assistant, G. W. Topham & Son,Cambridgeshire. (Seasonal)

The role is temporary, based in Eltisley and the surrounding land farmed by G. W. Topham & Son. The role will last as long as it takes to complete the summer 2020 arable harvest, along with filling the grain stores (100,000 tonnes across 16 stores, and two sites) for our commercial customers. Working hours will be typical for an arable farm during the busy harvest period. There will be long working days (well into the evening) and 7 days a week working may be necessary as work and weather dictates.

Key activities:

  • Daily maintenance checks on equipment used
  • Loading and unloading of bulk tipper lorries, a variety of products, using a variety of machinery
  • Blowing down grain stores and tidying the yard
  • Following all company H&S guidelines

Skills and qualifications:

  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Good experience of safety operating farm machinery, in particular telescopic forklifts (JCB-550)
  • To work in accordance with our maintenance and health & safety procedures
  • Current Forklift certification and previous harvest experience preferable
