Student Desktop

The Student Desktop is available to all students from home or from your own laptop on campus to allow you to have the same experience as working on machines on campus.

In order to access this facility please follow the instructions

Download the Student Desktop- Windows based computer 

  1. Download the student desktop
  2. on the next page, choose ‘download now’ 
  3. once downloaded, you should see on your screen that there is an option to open/save/run- if you choose save as from these options it will allow you to save to your desktop, otherwise it will go into your downloads folder on your computer. 
  4. When you open the student desktop, it will ask for a username and password, your username is org\studentnumber and your password is the same one you use for logging into other student services. 
  5. Your computer should remember your username for the next time you go to login.

Download the Student Desktop- Apple (including MAC) /Android 

  1. Go to App store for Apple Devices/Play store for Android devices  
  2. Look for and download ‘Microsoft remote Desktop’ app
  3. Once downloaded, download the student desktop
  4. Once downloaded, this should give you the option to open/open with (you may have to go into your downloads folder on your device to find the downloaded student desktop file) – choose RD client/Remote desktop here.  
  5. If you are met with a permission pop up, you will have to choose yes/ok here to proceed 
  6. You should then see a pop-up box looking for you to input your username and password. 
  7. Your username is org\studentnumber and your password is the same one you use for logging into other student services.  
  8. Depending on your device, you may be able to login straight from the RD Client app after your first login. For apple devices, you would need to go into downloads and click on the student desktop download to get your login pop up.
