Applicants or prospective applicants to courses at SRUC

Firstly, there is no need to panic. We guarantee that this year’s national qualifications grades - based on units, course work and teacher feedback - will be recognised and valued to support your learner journey into and through SRUC.

We are also closely monitoring the situation with other UK and worldwide qualifications and alternative exam/marking arrangements will also be recognised and valued.

We will ensure that nobody is unfairly disadvantaged by the current extraordinary circumstances. Please bear with us while we gather all the relevant information and finalise the details.

Please check this information regularly as it will be updated as the situation develops. As we receive questions we will build on and expand this list. Got a question? Get in touch and we'll add it to the FAQ.

English Language Requirements

We are aware that English language test centres are closed in many countries. You may be concerned about being unable to take your English language test, to meet the English language conditions of your offer.  It is important for the success of your studies at SRUC that you can demonstrate good English language skills.

In addition to the English Language tests we usually accept, SRUC has agreed to accept the below for entry in September 2020.

More information can be found on the SRUC’s English Language requirements page.

If you need a Tier 4 visa to study with us on a course below degree level, we can only accept as evidence of English Language one of the UKVI approved tests:

Work Experience

National Certificate/Advanced Certificate Horse Care, HNC/HND Equine Studies, Introduction to Animal Care/National Certificate Animal Care, HNC/HND Animal Care

SRUC understands that this is a difficult time to be undertaking relevant work experience.  If you are already holding a conditional offer for one of the courses above where the conditions include gaining relevant work experience, this requirement will be removed for the coming academic year.

However, if circumstances change between now and the start of the course, we recommend that you try and gain work experience before the start of the course.

BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing

SRUC understands that this is a difficult time to be gaining relevant work experience in a veterinary practice.  If you are already holding a conditional offer where one of your conditions includes gaining additional work experience, we recommend that additional experience is gained prior to the start of the course to prepare you for the demands of the programme.  We appreciate that this will only possible should the current circumstances improve, and it is safe to do so, therefore will take this into consideration when making final decisions on acceptance.

If you have any questions regarding your work experience conditions, please contact and they will be passed onto the Veterinary Nursing team.

Internal progression within SRUC

SRUC is continuing to deliver learning, teaching and assessment remotely wherever possible, whilst recognising that some changes will be necessary. We are currently reviewing our progression/admissions criteria and will publish this information when it is finalised.

We want to help support you to achieve your qualification and to progress on to your next activity be it further study or in to the work place.
