SRUC

Working with horses is more a way of life than a regular job, but for those who are devoted to horses and have the motivation to work with them whatever the weather or time of day, this provides its own unique rewards.

As a professional equestrian you will be able to choose from a wide variety of jobs within different types of organisations, and our courses at SRUC will give you an excellent overview of different career paths.

There are many employment opportunities within the equine and horse care industry, including:

  • Riding instructors
  • Grooms
  • Stud assistants
  • Workers in racing yards
  • HM Forces
  • Police Force

Student spotlight: Laura Graham

Lantra Scotland ALBAS (Awards for Land-based and Aquaculture Skills) nominee Laura Graham's equine career began as a five-year-old when she first tried horse riding at a birthday party. That moment has led to her starting from NC level and working her way up to studying for an HND in Equine Studies, and setting up her own business working as a stable hand.
