This one-year HNC develops skills across all areas of cooking at a professional level, including food preparation and hygiene and service. It also provides practical experience of cookery and catering through various internal and external events.
We've designed this course with the aim of maximising your chances of finding a job. Work experience is an integral part of the learning, and every graduate to date has gone on to find a job in the food sector — some of them in Michelin-standard restaurants.
Study topics cover how to buy and classify food, production cookery in hot, cold and dessert kitchens and hospitality supervision. You'll also learn about hospitality financial and control systems, and have the opportunity to take your Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate.
Once your year is over, if you'd like to take your studies further you can progress to year two of our HND in Professional Cookery. You'll also be eligible to apply for degree programmes in other learning institutions.
